![]() ![]() His style was the most aggressive anybody had ever seen, from the first second of the first minute of the first round he went for the KO. He's a huge personality was the biggest PPV draw, he hit like a freight train and was incredibly quick for a heavyweight. ![]() You can't live in a world of if his trainer didn't die if he had a different upbringing etc etc you've got to go off what actually happened. Mike's resume lacks beating other top fighters there's no getting away from that. Lewis lost to Rahman and Mccall-not elite boxers but it was more flash knockouts, Mike's defeat to 'Tokyo' Douglas seemed worse in the way it went down, similar to the aj ruiz fight somewhat. However losing one fight doesn't take much away from the ATG's. He lost to Buster Douglas when he was 23 years old and loads of people don't accurately represent that. If you want to take about a 'prime' fighter RJJ is a much better example but not as well known by casuals. The problem is people make a ton of excuses for his losses and far too much is made of his 'prime'. The honest answer is somewhere in between. I'm looking for discussion from people who have boxed and understand boxing, so please don't just put casual or a random abusive comment. People regularly describe him as an all-time great, if you agree with this why? What specifically made him so great? I've never boxed but I can see on screen that he had very fast combinations and great footwork, is there anything else that non-boxers don't realise which describes why he's classed as being so good? When he got older he lost to names like Holyfield and Lennox, was this really because he was past his prime and had significantly diminished, or was he just beaten by top-level competition? Fight threads are made by mods unless specifiedĬasual here - Mike Tyson is obviously very famous and his fights were clearly very entertaining, but objectively how good was he really?ĭid he just fight low competition fighters when he was young, ie how good were Spinks and Berbick for example? I know Spinks had a great record, but was that just padded or did he build it against top contenders?.Mods will remove reposts and low-effort posts. No spoilers in post titles 24 hours after a fight.Be civil - no personal insults or direct attacks.Lists of the best fights in boxing history, a guide to sanctioning bodies, and details on world champions from around the globe.
